What Are We Learning Now?
March/April
Ch 3- Motion
We are learning about how things move, what ways they can move, and how metals can attract. We are also preparing for the Science Fair, which will be in May. We are currently studying the Scientific Method when we do experiments that go along with the chapter we are discussing. Right now we will take a break from the Chapter to focus more on what the Scientific Method is and how we will be using it for our experiment for the Science Fair.
What to expect in Science:
Homework: Will be given regularly. Homework that is assigned will go along with the lesson done in class. If your child misses more than 2 homework's, that will affect there grade. Your child is more than welcome to share something from nature they found, or a book they have that has to do with something we have spoken about, etc. We always love to hear what you have seen or discussed at home.
Assessments: We will have an assessment at the conclusion of each chapter. Your child will be informed 1 week before they are given the test. We will review as a class and they are expected to review at home, using their textbook, review sheet, and notes from their Science notebook. Each class will also receive short quizzes once in a while to make sure that your child is understanding the lessons.
January/February
Ch 2- Natural Resources
We are learning the importance of protecting our natural resources and how we are harming natural resources. We are learning about Air Pollution, Water Pollution, littering
Oct/Nov:
Ch 1-What Changes Earths Surface
We are learning about the changes of the earths surface, rocks, and fossils. Each class has observed rocks and has participated in a scratch rock experiment. We will continue to observe different types of rocks. All second grade classes are finishing up Ch 1 and will soon have a review for their Ch 1 test. Each class will have a review class and will be given a review sheet to fill out in class and study from at home. This is very important to have in order to do well on their test, in addition to their notes.

September:
We will start the year off discussing the topic of recycling. We will talk about the importance of it and sort through different recyclables in class.
