WHAT ARE WE LEARNING NOW? March/April We are studying the Scientific Method. This will help us throughout the Blubber experiment we will conduct in class. This experiment will be shown off to the school and during the Science Fair in May. January/February We are discussing animals in cold climates. How do they survive in the climate? We are going in depth about adaptations. What adaptations do animals need to survive in the cold climates they live in? We will be focusing on the words "adapt" and "blubber". First grade will conduct an experiment using blubber. They will use blubber to see if it will keep their hands warm or cold in cold water. This experiment will be shown off at the Science Fair in May.
_________________________________________________________________ November We are continuing our discussion on Fall, but discussing what animals do in Fall to prepare for winter. We will discuss animals that hibernate, migrate, and adapt to winter. What's Next?-In December we will be learning about different types of animals- Amphibians, Mammals, Reptiles, and Birds and how to classify them. ________________________________________________________________ October What Happens in Fall? Continuing into October we will be discussing the season of Autumn. We will be observing different types of leaves, pine cones, and acorns. All students will be ask to bring in 1 leaf to observe. We will also talk about the changes we see in Autumn. We will discuss what animals, plants, and people do differently in Autumn.
September Recycling Right now in 1st grade we are discussing recycling. We are reading, writing, and drawing about it. We will discuss more on the proper ways to sort garbage and why we recycle. We will have the opportunity to show each other what we remember about recycling and how the right way to do it.
